NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the growing demand of luxury cars from across the globe, German auto maker — Porsche — plans to ramp up its production capacity as it sets the stage to roll out its new model Panamera by 2009. The firm, which has achieved its maximum production capacity of 96,000 cars annually at its existing plants in Germany, will enhance the capacity of its Leipez plant by 15,000-20,000 cars.
“We are currently utilising the maximum capacity at our two plants and hence Panamera will have to be produced only after we increase the capacity of our Leipez plant where about 35,000-38,000 cars are being manufactured now,” says Mohamed Rahman, MD, Porsche Centre India (PCI), at the launch of its second generation Cayenne SUV in India.
It plans to triple its sales in India in the next three years. “This year the target is 200 units. For 2008 it is about 240-260 units and taking this forward we plan to sell over 540-550 units in India,” says Ashish Chordia, CEO, PCI. “We have incorporated Porsche Cars India Pvt Ltd and plans to add three dealers to it from southern India, in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.” he added.
